VW 4Motion Weekend Escape Tour (2 days)

Would like to join Great Divide Tours on a great weekend escape in the Central Tablelands around Lithgow and Mudgee? This tour is specifically designed for the Volkswagen 4 Motion Multivan style vehicles with camper conversions.

This will be a guided tag-along tour under the leadership of Alex Caruana from Great Divide Tours & 4Motion Adventures. Alex & Vic have put together a fantastic weekend trip that embraces the amazing capability of your Volkswagen 4 Motion whilst providing an educational appreciation of our country and history.

Starting in Lithgow on Saturday morning we will visit a fantastic indigenous art site not far from town. After this we hit the gravel and meander up a beautiful valley to the top of the escarpment with some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the state.

Our day continues off the beaten track through the beautiful Gardens of Stone National Park before we spend a very short time on the Castlereagh Highway and a short section of sealed road that leads not only to our beautiful camp site but also a step back into our forgotten history. We will be joined by a local historian as we embark on an amazing walking tour of the forgotten shale oil mining town of Glen Davis. This is the largest collection of shale mining buildings in the world.

On returning to our camp its time to set up and settle into a great evening around the campfire with your hosts Alex and Olga, who have travelled more of Australia than most.

On Sunday morning we will wake in the dramatic surrounds of the sandstone country with its magnificent coloured cliff faces towering over our camp. From here we will drive out past Glen Alice to Rylstone and then its time to explore more of our past history as we drop into the gold mining town of Sofala for a street walk. After stretching our legs Alex knows a few back roads which will see us travel through some truly beautiful countryside, beside the Turon River, which we will cross occasionally on open causeways. In fact, we intend to stop for lunch under the whispering she oaks with the babbling waters of the Turon at our feet.

Drawing ourselves away from this magical spot we will take the less travelled route via Turon Gates which leads us to another perfect camping spot beside the river. This will be our afternoon tea stop but you may be so delighted with this peaceful valley and the superb simplicity of your 4Motion camper that you just might decide to stay the night. For those on a tighter time schedule Alex will guide you out to the Castlereagh Highway and the town of Capertee to say farewell.
